Sensory Trail to be
developed with assistance from Local Kiwanis Clubs
Plans are underway to
begin development of a Sensory Trail in the southeastern
corner of our property. The Sensory Trail will occupy
approximately 2 acres and will be designed to impact all
five senses – touch, smell, sight, hearing, and taste.
Trail elements will include a bubbling water feature, a
wooden bridge, fruit and shade trees and different textures
for the horses to walk over such as pea gravel, sand, fall
leaves, etc. The sense of touch will be stimulated by the
feel of different flowers and plants along the trail. The
sense of smell will be stimulated by the smell of flowers,
plants and trees that can be reached along the trail. Taste
buds may be stimulated by picking an apple or ear of corn
along the trail. Both horse and cart paths will be included
in the Sensory Trail.
Local Kiwanis Clubs
from Kings and Tulare Counties have agreed to assist Happy
Trails with the development and building of the Sensory
Trail. The development of the project will consist of
numerous stages including grading, irrigation and
underground, pathways, planting, gates and fencing, water
features, bridge, and electrical among others. The Kiwanis
clubs will provide some funding and lots of manpower and
donated material. Anyone interested in assisting with the
project is encouraged to contact Leslie Gardner at 688-8685
or Andre Gaston at 635-4356
